Ironclad, OneTrust, and Ivo get named together in a lot of "best legal AI" and "best CLM software" searches, but per each company’s own public materials, they occupy three genuinely different categories — and none of the three combines contract lifecycle management (CLM) and third-party risk management (TPRM) in one platform. This page walks through what each one actually is, based on their own homepages, and where CDL Intelligence sits by comparison.
Ironclad — a mature, CLM-only platform
Ironclad is a contract lifecycle management platform: drafting, workflow, e-signature (its own signature flow, plus integrations with DocuSign, Adobe Sign, and Dropbox Sign), and an AI assistant, Jurist, for drafting, review, negotiation, and research. Its own homepage does not describe third-party or vendor risk management as part of the platform. Ironclad is also a recognized category leader — named a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Contract Life Cycle Management for the third consecutive year, and placed in the Leaders category of The Forrester Wave for CLM Platforms, Q1 2025[1][2] — reflecting more than a decade of CLM-specific product depth that a newer platform, including CDL Intelligence, has not yet had the years to build.
OneTrust — privacy, AI governance, and third-party risk, not CLM
OneTrust’s own homepage positions it as an "AI-Ready Governance Platform" spanning AI governance, consent management, data-use governance, privacy automation, tech risk & compliance, and third-party management. The third-party management module is a genuine, established TPRM offering. Contract drafting or negotiation is not described anywhere on OneTrust’s own homepage — a legal team evaluating OneTrust for vendor risk would still need a separate CLM tool for the contract side of the same relationships.
Ivo — an AI review layer, not a replacement for a CLM
Ivo’s own homepage describes three capabilities: Review (redlining directly in Microsoft Word or Google Docs), Assistant (question-answering on agreed terms), and Intelligence (connecting to contracts "wherever they live" to extract data). There is no mention of native e-signature, contract storage, or workflow management — Ivo’s own positioning is explicitly complementary to, rather than a replacement for, a full CLM system, and it does not address vendor or third-party risk at all.
Where CDL Intelligence Sits
None of the three combines CLM and TPRM in one dataset — a team wanting both from any of them would be running two or three separate tools, exactly the split CDL Intelligence’s own architecture is built to remove. That said, CDL Intelligence is a newer platform than any of the three: it does not have Ironclad’s decade of CLM-specific workflow depth, OneTrust’s breadth of formal privacy and compliance certifications, or a multi-year production track record at scale. The honest comparison isn’t "which platform is better at everything" — it’s which platform’s dataset already contains what you need to answer the question you’re actually asking.
